To all those who use Masjid Nagoya, Assalamualaikum.

The Expert Meeting on Novel Coronavirus Disease Control held under the Japanese Government yesterday announced the following (below is a translation). “In all places where people were infected in groups, the places always met these 3 descriptions simultaneously. 1. The place had poor ventilation and air exchange. 2. The place had many people gathering very closely. 3. The place had people talking in close distance (a distance where they can touch each other if they reach out their arms) . . . Please beware of places where these 3 descriptions are met all together, and be advised to stay away from it.” (The full announcement made by the Expert Meeting on Novel Coronavirus Disease Control can be read here).

Through the meeting mentioned above, the Japanese Government also requests all citizens to extend the period of refraining from organizing large gatherings until around the 19th of March. Moreover, considering that Aichi prefecture is the second most infected prefecture only after Hokkaido in terms of the number of infections, Masjid Nagoya has decided to extend the cancellation period of Friday Prayers and all Gatherings. Announcement as of now: ・March 13th (Fri) & March 20th (Fri): Friday Prayer Cancelled ・March 14th (Sat) & March 15th (Sat): All Gathering Cancelled ・March 27th (Fri) & March 28th (Sat) & Later: To be Announced

We will continue to keep an eye on the situation and make new announcements when appropriate. Should you need any clarification, please feel free to contact us through e-mail. (Please refrain from calling for inquiries on this matter) info@nagoyamosque.com

‘Abdullah b. ‘Abbas reported that he said to the Mu’adhdhin on a rainy day: When you have announced” I testify that there is no god but Allah; I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,” do not say:” Come to the prayer,” but make this announcement:” Say prayer in your houses.” He (the narrator) said that the people disapproved of it. Ibn ‘Abbas said: Are you astonished at it? He (the Holy Prophet), who is better than I, did it. Jumu’a prayer is no doubt obligatory, but I do not like that I should (force you) to come out and walk in mud and slippery ground.
